All the Club News - Updated Weekly
Week Ending 5th January 2012

One has to ponder whether the rain will arrive or not - predictions from various weathermen have so far not materialized and as a result, the course is looking particularly dry at the moment. Well done to Mike and his team for at least keeping the fairways and greens watered. The hot conditions are definitely not helping the cause!

Wednesday's Individual Stableford has a new winner on the Prize List - Cedric Kruger played out of his socks, accumulating 46 points to win on the day with Neville Thompson in 2nd place, 6 shots off the pace on 40 pts. He, in turn, counted out Strand Strikers, Garth Wilyman into 3rd spot, also on 40 pts and Sierd Lamminga taking 4th place on 38 pts.

The sponsored Monthly Medal was played in very windy conditions, which played havoc on the big, high hitters, but it was a well supported competition nonetheless. All our visitors and new members were warmly welcomed at Prize Giving by Club Captain, Peter Toward.

The A Div was won by past Club Captain, Greg Thiel on 71, ousting Ricky Towell into 2nd place on 72.

The B Div was settled by way of a count out with Dave Mulroy taking the honours from Bruce Sutcliffe, both on 70.

The C Div, being the most popular division of all, was also decided on the count out system with Keith Vergottini scooping it from Kuben Naidoo, both on 71.

The ladies also played Medal - once again our Lady Captain, Annette Gillett won comfortably on 72 from Lesa Vergottini who finished on 74. Annette also took the "least putts" competition with 33 putts. The Vergottini family certainly did well - well done everyone!

Dave Mulroy collected the jackpot on 12 pts - the hidden birdie will be carried over, which is still languishing on the 1st hole. Not too sure who snatched the attendance draw but the special draw will definitely roll over to next week, courtesy of Peter Archer.

Belated congratulations to Jimmy Spear, a member of Umkomaas Golf Club, who plays in all the KZN Senior tournaments in and around Durban and Pietermaritzburg. For his efforts, Jimmy is lying 3rd in the B Division which augers well for the rest of the year. The Club wishes Jimmy and all the Senior players from Umkomaas great golf and good luck to you al

There will be a dinner at the Club on Friday, 2nd March (at a nominal charge) after 6-Pin, with a Bingo evening thrown in as well. This should be great fun, so if you're a fan of Bingo, do come along and join in.

Members are reminded to put their scores into the terminal on the day of play - your cards will be checked after the 72 hour deadline.
